I know I’m definitely not the first person to complain about this, but guys…REBLOG.

REBLOG REBLOG REBLOG REBLOG

As creators we’re on this platform for the community and the interaction, not for the faceless likes (which do nothing for the algorithm on top of that).

If you like a fic, tell the author in some tags! If you enjoyed an artwork, reblog and leave a comment. Even an empty reblog helps. Don’t want to clutter your blog? Make a side blog.

I’ve seen people say that we ‘don’t owe each other anything’ and that’s true. But if you want to keep enjoying free content, you guys better start reblogging.

Cause otherwise all the artists you admire so much, or the authors you’ve followed for years will disappear into their private circles and there won’t be any content for you to enjoy at all.

Just to reiterate…there’s no algorithm here like there is on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok so just “liking” something doesn’t get a thing in front of more eyes here on tumblr dot com…Reblogging does.

Helps keep the community thriving and helps bring the happy serotonin to both the content creators, who know you liked their thing because you reblogged it, and the consumers/viewers of the content because more people will see it!

Let’s keep the community going, let’s keep fandom going on here, by supporting each other and our content creators

(^^from stories selected at random from my current notifications)

This isn’t a new problem for creators on Tumblr, but it’s definitely something that’s getting worse and worse. If you enjoyed something, reblog it. If it’s not your jam, keep scrolling.

Likes are more of a bookmark so you can find it again in the future maybe, or a little ‘hey, I enjoyed that, have some extra kudos’ to the creator, but a reblog is a ‘thank you for giving me something I really enjoyed, I’m gonna show my friends’.

Without the people who reblogged my stories (which is something you can do for free to help), I would never have been able to turn my writing in to a full-time profession on Patreon that helped pay my mortgage for two whole years. Reblogging the content you actively enjoyed consuming (for free) is a great way to support the creators who provided the content you enjoyed (for free) and to get them to keep producing it (for free).

If it was worth your time to read/look at/consume, it should be worth your time to click reblog.

I follow people because I want to see the things they reblog. No reblogs = less possibilities for me to see and find new content, new artists etc. My dash is pretty much empty even for really big fandoms, as their reblog ratio is like 800 reblogs and 13 000 likes…

That doesn’t work. What works in Tumblr is 13 000 reblogs and 800 likes.

I’ve been in Tumblr over a decade. I went to see some popular art posts from 2014 and 2016 to see their reblog-like ratio. This phenomena of likes eating reblogs and slowly killing Tumblr CAN’T be imagination and content creators just whining.

It’s not:

Now, let’s see some of the like-reblog rations of popular post from 2022:

Guys, seriously. If you don’t reblog, this platform dies, eventually. I, as your follower, don’t get to see everyone else’s arts and writings and other posts. That’s one of the main reasons why I’m here. My dash is so much slower and quieter now than earlier (though the p0rn ban made many leave).

Artists don’t really have much any platforms left anymore. Art galleries are dying or specialized in certain content or use. Web comic pages are OK but made mainly to grind money for the host page. Ko-Fi doesn’t have community, nor has really Patreon. In Twitter, your art is visible for 15 seconds before it disappears and is never seen again, as the tagging system sucks. Instagram has a page limit and it’s more for brainless consuming than fandom joys as a group. Discord servers are closed groups where things move fast and then disappear.

Tumblr is honestly the best platform for art right now. But it’s no use if we don’t get to see the stuff others make - the search option here is infamously horrible.

I WANT TO SEE STUFF! REBLOG IT FOR ME! ToT How can I, or your other followers, see anything if you hide it in likes? QoQ

queued from the queue why did I lose my fast queue option for just this post?

Last night I had the most FUCKED UP dream that tumblr introduced a new feature where unless you turned off the option to people could just hijack your blog and start posting on it and editing the appearance (as """collaboration"""), basically like how collaborative spotify playlists work but the way people used it was wayyy worse because it was on tumblr and they released the feature while I was asleep so before I had a chance to turn it off these two dudes joined one of my side blogs and turned the ENTIRE THING into a really stupid gimmick blog and I had to turn the feature off to boot them (because you couldn't just kick individual people off its all or nothing) and redo everything

ok so, for the last few hours i've been making this code that organizes the colors in drawings:

(mostly @metukika's bc her works look really dope and i don't have many like that ;_;)

and these things feel like something that would be sold as a "deconstruction of classical paintings" like the "the kiss" by Klimt, "starry night" by Van Gogh or "Girl with a pearl earing" by vermeer

i can imagine going to an art gallery and finding stuff like this, made by someone who thinks they are so so smart

Ok but this is actually phenomenally cool OP, and a terrific tool for explaining some of the weirder aspects of color theory, especially how to translate color from traditional media to digital.

I'm working on the teaching plan for a digital painting class I'm going to pitch to my illustration school, and I was wondering if you had something I could use to show this concept to the class? (In exchange for full credit and money of course)
